Outfit of the Week: Sweater Weather

My Macau outfit.  When I was deciding what to wear for our day in Macau, I figured the weather would be as cold as Hong Kong since it's just an hour away by ferry.  Wrong.  Though it was a bit chilly, Macau was far too sunny that it was more hot than cold.  So by the time we walked to and from the hotels, I was already sweating buckets!  Good thing I was wearing a cardigan and not a sweatshirt.  All I had to do is take it off and everything was better.  LOL.  Lesson of the day:  always have a sweater on hand, just in case! :)

Macau

Back to regular programming!

Surprise!  Though I only mentioned that our trip was to Hong Kong, Hubby and I did a day trip to Macau.  Being only an hour away by ferry, it's really easy to get to Macau from Hong Kong.  It's been quite a while since the last time we were in Macau, and we miss it!  So off to Macau we went.  We really did not have anything planned, so we went around as we please.  They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I'll let the pictures do the talking and let you guys enjoy the sights of Macau without my constant blabbering.  LOL.  Enjoy! 

Amazing huh?  We thought we could go around Macau in just a day, but it turns out that Macau is bigger than we thought.  We didn't even get to do the touristy things!  And we didn't even get to taste Portuguese food except for one egg tart.  Does that even count?!  So... both of us agreed that next time, we'll do a separate Macau trip and savor everything they have to offer.

An Open Letter To Jubilee (A Repost)

Interrupting my travel post with this one, sorry!  Will get back to regular programming in a few days.

The following is a screenshot of an already removed post about Jubilee Christian Academy in Quezon City.  My alma mater.  While I do not support the use of countless swear words, I can somehow empathize with the author.  This post was put up by a certain chipsahoy on February 10, but was immediately removed a day after.  Maybe the higher ups in the school had something to do with it.  Lucky for you, and unlucky for the school, I was able to save it.  So... enjoy :)

Shocked?  While I may not vouch for every single thing written on the post, I do know for a fact that some of them are true.  I posted the link on my Facebook wall yesterday, and other batchmates chimed in.  Here are some of their comments:

Do I still have plans to enroll my future children in Jubilee?  No.  Though I know that each school has their own flaws, this is just too much.  I reposted this not because I have some wicked way of planning to take down the school.  Heck no, I'm too busy for that.  What I want  is awareness.  And I want change.  It seems that the school has had their wayward ways for far too long.  And this is not how a Christian school, or any school for that matter, should go about.  So... you be the judge :)

Hong Kong Eats: BLT Burger

On our second night in Hong Kong, Hubby and I found ourselves in Times Square, Causeway Bay.  We were dead tired from walking, and we were running late for a late night meet-up with a friend.  We needed something near and fast, so when we passed by BLT Burger, this was it.

This was ok.  Nothing to write home about.  Though... Hubby did mention that the blue cheese dip was pretty good.

This was my order.  I specified that I didn't want tomatoes or onions in my burger, but I guess the server forgot.  Forgot or deliberately "forgot".  

Roaring Forties Blue

7 oz. Grilled CAB Burger, Roaring Forties Blue Cheese, Balsamic Caramelized Onions, Mushrooms

Hubby's order.  He likes them stinky, so I always ask if that's the reason why he married me.  LOL.  He said it was fine.  Fine=meh.

So the verdict?  The food in BLT Burger is nothing special.  Yes, the patty was very soft, but that's about it.  No distinct beef aroma whatsoever.  And the service?  You can forget about it.  Remember about my no tomato, no onions order?  Besides conveniently forgetting, the server looked very unwelcoming as well.  So between the mediocre food and the bad service, one thing is for sure:  we won't be back.  2 out of 5 stars.

Hong Kong Eats: Pierre Hermé Paris

Hi guys!  Sorry for being AWOL for a while, been busy shamelessly plugging my SM style hunt thing over the past few days.  Well, sadly, I did not win.  But that's okay!  Thanks to everyone who voted for me :)  Now, back to regular programming!

So what's next in my series of Hong Kong Eats?  Ah, Pierre Hermé.  I actually missed out on Pierre Hermé the last time we went to Hong Kong.  I didn't know they already opened!  I only found out when we already got back and I saw all those Instagram and Facebook posts.  Since then,  I've been beating myself up psychologically for missing the chance to try the much-hyped macarons.  Now, on this trip, you can bet that this was among the list of my must-trys!  Let's see how it compares to Ladurée.  But first, the pictures!

So how was it?  Initially I wanted to eat them the moment we got them.  But since we haven't had our dinner yet, we waited until we got back to the hotel before attacking.  The verdict?  Um... sad to say, it did nothing for me.  The flavors were weird (most are a mix of two flavors) and the macaron itself was too crumbly.  Not sure if it's because it took time before we ate it, or the texture really is like that.  It was kinda cold in Hong Kong so the heat may not be a factor.  I'd have to give it 2 out of 5 stars.  Oh well.  Back to Ladurée!

Hong Kong Eats: Ippudo HK, a second time

Remember this?  Well, we loved it so much that we cannot simply pass up the chance of going back there again.  Plus, the last time we ate in Ippudo Singapore, they don't serve the codfish that I've been raving about in their HK branch.  So here we go, Ippudo HK, take two.

Akamaru Shinaji

Broth is good, but found it a tad too salty for my taste.  Guess my tastebuds got spoiled with our very own Ramen Nagi in SM Aura.  :)

Eel Rice with Egg in Stone Pot

Ah, something new.  I've always been a fan of the unagi (eel) so finding this in the menu, I just had to order it.  No regrets here, the eel perfectly complemented the soft Japanese rice.

Codfish with Saikyo Miso Sauce

And of course, our Ippudo favorite.  The codfish that haunted me for half a year.  This was just a teeny tiny bit overcooked compared to the last time, but nonetheless, it does the job well.  An explosion of  greatness in my mouth.  Ooooh.

Soft Boiled Egg

And being the egg monster, we ordered not one, but two kinds of soft boiled eggs.  If they had 10 kinds of soft boiled eggs, I tell you, we would've ordered them all.  LOL.  This one tasted very plain.  But I liked that they were consistent in delivering real soft boiled eggs, unlike some ramen joints that give almost hard boiled ones.

Now this, will be my staple order every single time in our future Ippudo visits.  Marinated soft boiled egg is love.  Almost made me order another one if only I wasn't afraid of cholesterol levels shooting up, haha!

All in all, I applaud Ippudo HK for consistency.  Will definitely be back again and again and again!  4 out of 5 stars!
